YMCA ? Are we allowed to go there or not?
by Quarterback inhalf of our congregation goes there to work out because of the good pool facilities and prices, and the other half think that it's wrong due to it's old charter.
but no one is enforcing the wrong or right of it.
i'd be interested in knowing how this is being applied worldwide.

Strictly forbidden-- no YMCA memberships or yoga in my former congo on NE Coast, USA. Some of the pioneer sisters who were putting on weight from riding around in cars all day in between coffee breaks were sorely tried by these restrictions. It was an issue. Some went ahead and took yoga anyway. I was never one to rat anyone out. -

Happy Thanksgiving Oubliette!
I'm thankful that, in spite of great distances, we were able to have family time for Thanksgiving. We drove down to Annapolis, MD from Connecticut to be with our son. He and I cooked a fantastic dinner together. Then we called my daughter in Guatemala City and had a video chat with my husband, son, daughter, grandson and I. We got to see my grandson crawl for the first time. Best Thanksgiving ever! Can't wait for Christmas in Guatemala! I can't believe I lived my first 52 years in life without holidays.

Yeah, my parents plan to will everything to this parasitic organization and forsake their seed
by Phaedra inyeah, they'll leave it all, their home, savings, etc.. never mind helping out their struggling children who never had a chance.. fuck this organization and everything it stands for when its members think god will favor them more by willing everything to a corporation instead of their own struggling seed..

So sorry, Phaedra. It's the way cults roll. My JW in-laws expressly wrote their only child out of their wills decades ago. The WTBTS takes all of a million dollar plus estate. We are into the third generation of shunning in our family. No sense being angry; it won't change a thing. Sadly, my FIL who accepts brief calls for "necessary family business" only, asked my husband to convey their love to their grandchildren and great grandson, but our kids simply don't care. Why should they? They never knew their grandparents who were too busy shunning their own son for nearly 45 years, and now they are shunning them as well. It's a shame to be in your 90's and have no family connections because of a doomsday cult. -

Snakes, I'm so sorry for your loss. Take all the time you need to greive. The only thing in life that seems to be true is impermanence. One day you will have fond memories of your brother, smile and celebrate his life. If your relationship was difficult, you can find forgiveness.
In any event, sudden deaths of any kind are difficult. We don't always get the chance to say the things we would have liked to say. Sometimes the JW factor gets in the way of greiving, for example, when we are excluded from the funeral services. In that that case, you will find your own way to move forward. Trust the process. Learn kindness and forgiveness toward yourself and others. We all have our own struggle. Some of us have been where you are now, and we care.

Are Jehovah's Witnesses marriages even legit?
by Joliette ini ask this because of the circumstances behind why they get married and who they get married by.
i know people say that they are really in love, they love jehovah, etc, but are these marriages even legit.
i've talked to older jw's sister who are now widowed, some of them say that they were trapped in a marriages.

I'm speaking of marriages arranged by the organization-- only marry a believer in good standing who will be a "good spiritual head" or a good "spiritual, submissive wife" based on the org's monitoring and criteria. Check with the elders about your intended's standing in the congregation. Follow all the courting/chaperoning rules. Group dating only. Don't even sit next to a brother / sister at the KH unless you are engaged. Don't dance too close at congregation "get-togethers" (a thing of the past). No kissing other than maybe a peck on the cheek. Essentially, you don't choose your future partner yourself, the org does it for you. Really no different than marrying someone who you never met who was chosen by your family. JWs go into marriage blind. Been there, done that. -

Most, if not all JW marriages are arranged marriages, IMO. -

I miss my family so much. I thought I was over it but I have breakdowns every few months thinking about my family
by macys inas most of you know i have been shunned by my family for 2 years because of a photo posted on facebook of me kissing another girl at a party.
the matter was not dealt with fairly but it is over now and i am 100% certain that jdub org is a cult.
but i miss my family so much.

My in-laws are shunning my husband, our two children and their great grandson-- shunning three generations deep. They would be shunning me if they knew I was out. Are you certain you want to risk exposing your future children to that? Remember, too, that all visitation would have to be supervised to protect your children against recruitment efforts. There are ex-JWs who are shunned by their own children. -

I Hate the Sound of the Word Jehovah
by cofty inlistening to clips of the latest manipulative video from the watchtower i realised how much i detest that word - jehovah.. sometimes i have thought it would be interesting to observe a meeting or part of a convention.
every time i heard that word i would be unable to stay in my seat.. i have a visceral reaction every time i hear it.
it stands for so much that i have contempt for.

For me it's about loaded language, an identifying mark of a cult. I have a visceral response to the word striving. My therapist used it in a positive way. I still connect it to the concept that 'everything is vanity and striving after the wind'. I explained it to him and asked him not to use the word anymore. I still have a lot of triggers even four plus years out.
